Hints & Tips

Prior to booking a service call you may like to check some of our handy hints and tips below:

Washing machines:   Always check the taps are connected from the tap to the washer and the water is turned on. Check the power is on and working, you may like to plug in another appliance such as  kettle to check the power point is functioning. Always make sure you are using the correct detergent, top loaders need top loading detergent and front loaders need front loading detergent. Try using less powder/ liquid often you don’t need as much as the detergent manufacturer suggests, the main ‘clean’ comes from the spin cycle of your machine.
Dishwashers:  We recommend always rinsing your plates and cutlery prior to putting into the dishwasher and washing out your filter regularly to make sure you are getting an optimal clean. We recommend using correct detergents and always use rinse aid, never use general sink or hand dishwashing  liquid as it is way too sudsy. The Spray arms can also be removed and cleaned out.

Discaler can be purchased and can be used on a regular basis – it cleans out your dishwasher, and can improve the life of your plastic  wheels and baskets plus your machine will sparkle.

Fridges & Freezers:  Never defrost your fridge using a knife or sharp implement you risk harming yourself and puncturing your evaporator. If you need a speedy defrost use small amounts of warm water to break down the ice – and make sure the fridge is turned off and unplugged!  If the door isn’t closing properly – make sure nothing is sitting in the way of the door, a slightly ajar door will increase your energy bill and put strain on the appliance.

Ovens & Stoves:  Avoid spillages of water or oil around your elements and the knobs, and make sure you soak up any liquids straight away.
If your oven is not turning on, check the clock! Make sure it is set and not flashing as the clock often acts as a timer.

Clothes dryers: Regularly clean out the lint filter and consider a general service every 6 – 12 months to ensure there is no build up of lint.
Hairdressers – Always have a regular service of your dryer as more hair is collected in your machine and try and have a vacuum available so we can extract any hair trapped in the dryer -  as this can lead to a possible fire hazard.

General Service Tips:

  • Do  not dismantle the appliance yourself, it will cost you more in the long run as we won’t be able to diagnose the machine without putting it back together and you risk loosing and damaging parts.

  • Observe when the problem originated and does the same problem occur around the same time every day?

  • When booking an appointment try and have the brand and model number of your appliance handy so the technician can come as prepared as possible.

  • Ask for your Job number as a reference, if you need to adjust your job details  our booking team can obtain your job details much more quickly as efficiently, saving you time.

Sydney Domestic Appliance Centre take no responsibility for your actions based on the advice above, if you are not sure if something is broken please contact us prior to trying to make a repair yourself. Especially when it comes to electricity - please be safe and cautious!
